This is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. I’m sharing a story of sexual assault that happened to me when I was 23 years old.
This is not an easy story to tell, but I felt I needed to share to possibly help someone who is scared to seek help for themselves or who might feel alone.
Sometimes we feel guilty or complicit in some ways because we’ve been made to feel we are to blame in a sexual assault situation. We put ourselves in a position for someone to take advantage of us or we convince ourselves that we GAVE them the advantage.
But that’s not the case! This wasn’t my fault! No one has the right to hurt me, to take advantage of me or to groom me into a situation I didn’t ask for. NO ONE should ever push themselves on you!
There are many women who’ve experienced sexual assault that didn’t realize it was happening because they were being groomed for so long. By the time the assault happens, they feel they’ve somehow contributed to it and are so incredibly ashamed, they never report it.
Please know you’re not alone and there are so many of us that want to help!
I have made many mistakes and some I’m not proud of. But I’m thankful for my mistakes because they have made me stronger! They have helped my grow.
I love who I am today. I’m not perfect and I never will be, but I love with all my heart, I try and help everyone I come in contact with and always do my best!
Thank you for watching this, thank you for reading this and thank you for being kind.
